Here’s a rundown of the people Judy Woodruff interviewed today at UNLV for tomorrow’s edition of The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS:
- Sandra Tiffany, businesswoman, former state senator
- Dr. Dale Carrison, professor, chair of emergency medicine at University of Nevada School of Medicine and University Medical Center
- Mary Gynan, dean of School of Public Health at UNLV
- Rene Cantu, vice president of multicultural affairs at Nevada State College, chair of the Latin Chamber of Commerce’s education committee
As noted in a previous post, after the interview, Woodruff was kind enough to speak to students from Mitch Fox’s interviewing class for a few minutes before she had to get back to work. She said that the four-person interview, which took place against the backdrop of a hospital bed in UNLV’s Bigelow Health Sciences building, was set up to address social services in Nevada.
Woodruff also posed with students for a picture that may go up on the PBS website.
And there were free cookies!

So you heard Judy Woodruff of the News Hour with Jim Lehrer was on campus. Well, she was.
Mitch Fox, an adjunct professor who teaches interviewing at UNLV, was overheard saying she was feasting at In-N-Out Burger. In-N-Out Burger and Judy Woodruff? Is it possible that such a well-known person would eat at a common place like this eatery?
Woodruff told students how a segment she was working on will go together for tomorrow’s broadcast on the News Hour. She also told students to read as much as they can if they want to be journalists.
“If you want to enter this crazy world of journalism, you better be prepared to have some staying power,” Woodruff said.
As this week continues up to the main debate, the media’s presence is becoming sillier, more intense, and chaotic. It will continue until they all leave UNLV and retreat back to their home bases once again.
Home sweet home.
